Come and learn how to get a project up and running with version 2.0 of GWT - the Google Web Toolkit! GWT provides a way for Java developers to build AJAX web applications using the familiar syntax, the SDK and your favorite IDE. We'll go from 0 to 60 by learning to build a basic application, as well as explore widgets and tools. You'll see a some of the neat things that you can do with it and how you can write JavaScript while also having the type safety provided by the Java language.

A rough agenda:

  • Setup the GWT environment and write your first Hello World app
  • Build a responsive UI quickly using built-in Javascript widgets
  • How to hook into the back-end database
  • Google App Engine - is it right for me?
  • Other widgets and framwork, as time permits

A big thank you to CodeAnthem for sponsoring our meeting and PROS Pricing for providing meeting space!
